& White Elephant Sale

The Ichiyo school of Ikebana is uniquely suited for using two containers in an arrangement which emphasizes balance and graceful lines to enhance natural beauty and dynamic energy.

A white elephant sale by members also offered an opportunity to purchase some beautiful Hina Ningyo (dolls). These dolls are typically displayed during Hina matsuri, also known as Girls’ Day or the Doll Festival, on March 3rd.

Chapter Meeting:
Arrangement Using Unconventional Materials

Demonstration by Claire Spencer-Spears, Sogetsu School

The concept of using unconventional material in an arrangement indicates it be part of the design, not just a decoration. In presenting this concept, Claire Spencer-Spears clearly shows the uniqueness of simple household items with creativity and a sense of style. As shown in the photos, selecting a container that compliments the design is also important. Please enjoy the different arrangements created by Claire and our members!

A workshop followed with members, new members and guests creating their own interpretations. Claire critiqued their work bringing beauty and uniqueness to the unconventional material.

Chapter Meeting:
”here Comes the Sun”

Arranging with Sunflowers

Demonstration by Polly Curran, Wafu School

When you think of sunflowers, you think of friends, smiling faces, and happiness.  This was the case at the Sarasota Chapter’s first meeting of the season on September 25th, held at the Sarasota Garden Club. Using sunflowers with pandanus, saw palmetto, crotons, and other material from her garden, Chapter #115 member and guest demonstrator Polly Curran from the Wafu school of Ikebana created four different styles of arrangements.  Each emphasized the natural beauty of the tropical plants of Florida in Autumn.
