In ancient Japan, it was said the best time to begin practicing cultural arts was the 6th day of the 6th month, at the age of 6. As such, June 6th was selected by the Kansai Ikebana Association and the Japan Art Association as Ikebana Day in celebration of this traditional art.
In collaboration with the North & Central American Region of Ikebana International, Sarasota Chapter #115 presents this virtual exhibition in celebration of Ikebana Day. Most years, Sarasota Chapter #115 of Ikebana International holds a multi-day exhibition at the Sarasota Garden Club. That exhibition provides an opportunity for the Sarasota community to see arrangements made by chapter members, view demonstrations, and discuss ikebana with exhibition docents.
COVID19 changed everything. With safety as a prime consideration, we chose to move the exhibition from the Garden Club to your computer. Twenty-seven members of Sarasota Chapter #115 created sixty arrangements with the Theme “Bamboo and Blooms.” Polly Curran then created this tour of those arrangements. We hope you enjoy our virtual showcase and hope to see you in person at our next exhibition.

Welcome to our 46th Annual Exhibition held each year at Marie Selby Botanical Gardens. Ikebana is a Japanese 6th C. fine art which began is Japan about the time Buddhism arrived. Initialy created by the Buddhist Priest, Royalty, and Samauri.
