Sarasota Chapter Participates in Garden Club Event

On Saturday, November 1, several members from our chapter spent the day entertaining and educating interested individuals about ikebana at the Sarasota Garden Club's 13th Annual Plant Sale.

Sogetsu Study Group Entertains and Enlightens Manor Care Residents

Ikebana Sarasota Chapter Sogetsu Group provided a demonstration of Ikebana floral design to the residents of Manor Care Assisted Living Home in Sarasota.  Arrangements were created by Pat Bonarek and Polly Curran of the various styles of Ikebana – Moribana, Nageire, free-style, and chabana (flowers for tea ceremony).  The residents enjoyed this presentation and actively engaged in the discussion of flowers and design.

 

 

 

Kimiko Ikeda Heads Japan Earthquake Relief Fund 

Englewood resident and accomplished Ikebana International member, Kimiko Ikeda led our Sarasota Chapter to raise $720 for the Japan Earthquake Relief Fund sponsored by the Consul General of Japan based in Miami.  Kimiko designed and created several  Haori, a special kimono style jacket, which our members purchased.
